  1. Because we need to speak of it over and over, and believe people hear and feel sorry for us. We need to feel like people can feel our pain and commiserate. I used to speak to total strangers about my tragic life. Today, I still seem to want to tell my whole life to total strangers. My neighbor says I live in the past because every chance I get to find a way to use my past as an example in a conversation that does not warrant my imput. My ex-husband said I was addicted to sympathy.
